1860 Threepence Token Hogarth & Erichsen Rated as being R7 by Renniks good Very Fine Lots of detail remaining, a better than average example. Hogarth, Erichsen & Company was established in around 1854 by the Dane Julius Hogarth (1820–1879) and the Norwegian Conrad Erichsen (c.1825–1903). Many believe that these two jewellers are the craftsmen most likely to have ben the first to create silver jewellery & decorative art that incorporated Australian flora and fauna, a style important to our national sense of self and one that became popular from the middle of the 19th century. Hogarth & Erichsen also issued a series of small silver threepences, these are known by Australian numismatists for their rarity & pioneering depictions of the Australian coat of arms.
