THREEPENCE. King George V. 1917. King George V. Coat of Arms. Mintage : 3,808,000. Scarce three leg variety. Light mark on crown. Choice Uncirculated Back in the day of the crazy variety collector, coins such as this were referred to as the 3-legged emu variety. This 1917 threepence is not only in high grade, but has the added appeal of being a scarce variety to boot. Why was it called the 3-legged emu variety? Take a look at the die crack running from the back of the emu to the rim, to some folks that looked like an extra leg.... Regardless of whether you think that's an accurate description or not, you'd have to admit that the die crack is pretty extreme! |
