As the first and rarest coins in the set of proof coins struck at the Perth and Melbourne Mints between 1955 and 1963, the 1955 Perth proof penny and halfpenny can be regarded as iconic in the entire Australian numismatic series.

,1955 Perth copper pairs are seldom seen on the open market - our records indicate that just two pairs were seen at auction throughout 2011, and just three were seen in 2010! ,,This lack of availability is partly a result of the tiny mintage of just 301 pairs, but is also a function of the fact that these pairs are tightly held by those that own them.
