1955 PERTH PROOF COPPER PAIR Penny and Halfpenny Mintage = 301

Less than half the price of a premium pair.

As the first and rarest coins in the set of proof coins struck at the Perth and Melbourne Mints between 1955 and 1963, the 1955 Perth proof penny and halfpenny can be regarded as iconic in the entire Australian numismatic series.

,The QEII pre-decimal proof series includes enough affordable coins that a complete set is well within the reach of many collectors, and the 1955 Perth copper pair is the one item that they all need to make their set truly complete.

,1955 Perth copper pairs are seldom seen on the open market - our records indicate that just two pairs were seen at auction throughout 2011, and just three were seen in 2010! ,,This lack of availability is partly a result of the tiny mintage of just 301 pairs, but is also a function of the fact that these pairs are tightly held by those that own them.

,Premium Perth copper pairs dated 1955 are currently bringing well over $25,000 - this pair is available at half that price.

,The penny has a dusty olive tone both sides, while the halfpenny retains the bright burnt-orange surface colour that Perth Mint proofs from this period are renown for.

,Make no mistake, a better quality pair of these coins will set you back $7,500 more than the asking price here - you could get nearly a 1956 Perth penny for that price!
