2009 ONE DOLLAR SILVER PROOF Citizenship

WIll this design end up beaing a real sleeper?

In 2009, Australia celebrated sixty years of the enactment of the Australian Citizenship Act.

Over four million people have taken part in the affirmation ceremony, symbolising our unity as a country.

To most new Australians it gives a sense of belonging, a chance to make a commitment to Australia and its values and to share in the common future.

Citizenship of course also brings with it the added freedoms (not always available in other countries) - the right to vote, to stand for public office and to travel abroad on an Australian passport.

Although citizenship is undoubtedly an important theme in our society, it has to be said that it won't be seen by everyone as being one that's inspiring and compelling. That may well mean that the coin ends up being a real "sleeper" - one that turns out to be far rarer (and thus ironically more desirable!) in years to come.
