Hay Internment Camp (NSW). Set of Issued Tokens. ca 1942. good EF ~ Choice Unc

A superb set of these rare and historic tokens, each in superior condition.

Complete sets of Hay Internment tokens are very rarely seen indeed - the five shilling piece is the rarest token in the set, just 745 of these are believed to have been struck back in 1942.

The rarity of this set is further appreciated when we consider that just a small fraction of the original mintage of the five shilling remains in mint state today, nearly seven decades on.

When we then consider the difficulty that there is in obtaining each of the other denominations in comparable condition, it is easy to appreciate why collectors are quite prepared pay increasing premiums in order to obtain historical heirlooms such as this.
