A complete set of Australian proof coins dated 1981, in FDC condition.

Australia has been producing proof year sets ever since decimal currency was introduced in 1966. Coin collecting was in a boom period in the early 1980's, proof sets were particularly popular.

Proof coins are the same as those we see in our change, but are struck with specially prepared machinery on specially prepared blanks - the designs always stand out magnificently.

Some 1981 proof sets include 20� coins with a particular appearance - the left front foot of the platypus has three and a half "claws", rather than the standard four. These sets have only recently been discovered, and bring a significant premium to those with the standard 20� coin.

The coins in this set are in perfect condition, as is the packaging. It comes with the original protective foam outers and certificate.
