AUSTRALIA 2007 PROOF SET Year Of The Lifesaver

Includes three scarce commemorative coins marking 60 years since the end of WWII.

Australia has been producing proof year sets ever since decimal currency was introduced in 1966. Proof coins are the same as those we see in our change, but are struck with specially prepared machinery on specially prepared blanks - the designs always stand out magnificently.

2007 was the Year of the Lifesaver here in Australia - the first lifesaving club in the country was founded at Bondi Beach in NSW in 1907. At the launch of the coins at the RAM late in 2006, the Commonwealth Treasurer, Mr Peter Costello stated that “It is fabulous that the Mint has chosen such a uniquely Australian theme. Surf Lifesaving plays such an active role in Australian culture, and these designs really reflect the important role of Surf Lifesaving over the past 100 years". The reverse design of the commemorative dollar coin in this set is certainly among the most attractive coins released in the past few years. It's only available in this metal in the proof sets (it is also available in silver and gold in the proof sets of those metals).

The coins in this set are in perfect condition, as is the packaging.
