Zeiss D36 9 Power Magnifier. 3-6-9X Achromatic Triplet with two lenses 22mm in diameter, housed in a custom handle and frame. Hands down, the best magnifier for coins that money can buy. For the technically minded among you, each of the Zeiss lenses in this magnifier is guaranteed to be "aplanatic" (which we understand means they have been corrected for spherical aberrations which interfere with sharp focusing) and also "achromatic" (which we understand means that they have been corrected for chromatic dispersion, which causes colors to separate and show up as "halos" around bright details). Anyone that has encountered a pair of spectacles made by Carl Zeiss International will be well aware of their quality and longevity. The D36 magnifier also comes standard with Zeiss' T* Multi-Layer Anti-Reflective coating, which both minimizes distracting environmental glare and enhances the clarity of the image seen through the lens. All of that means when you look through one of these, all you see is the coin, and nothing else. You won't see any distortion, reflection, shadows or discolouration that will distract you from actually grading your coins. The tough, reinforced polymer frame / handle is much lighter than a metal frame would be, yet in fact provides much better shock protection for the lenses if you happen to drop it. This magnifier feels well-made as soon as you pick it up, giving you confidence in your decision making. Two lenses in the one magnifier means that you can use the individual 3X or 6X lenses for an overall view of a coin's surfaces, or you can look through both lenses at the same time to view a small section of a coin at 9X magnification. We believe that these lenses are hands down the best that money can buy, and well worth the price. They are incredibly hard to get - we can't find an Australian supplier (the numbers sold in this country to date don't warrant the national distributor ordering them in unfortunately), and international suppliers can be incredibly hard to deal with when it comes to payment and delivery. Make no mistake, do some searching online and you'll be able to get one from an international supplier for a little less than our asking price here, but it'll take you time to track down the right supplier, make payment etc etc. We believe the modest margin we've added to the price more than covers the convenience of ordering from us! |
