A bold example of this historic coin.

With a diameter of 37mm and a weight of 41.60g, the 5 guineas is the largest coin ever issued in England. It was first struck under King Charles I in 1668, when it had a face value of 5 pounds.

William III and Mary II came to the English throne in 1688, following “The Revolution of 1688”, after which King James II fled to the safety of France.

William and Mary reigned together until Mary's death from smallpox in December 1694, after which William ruled as sole monarch.
