Description:

1933 R28 One Pound Consecutive Pair Riddle/Sheehan Uncirculated

Crisp paper, devoid of any bends at all.

Despite going to pretty much every numismatic auction held around the country in recent years, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen what I’d regard as a truly Uncirculated R28.

Check through Mick Vort-Ronald's banknote sales books, and not only will you see that several large runs of R28’s have been discovered over the years, but also that many of those notes have quarter bends in them.

Issued at the depths of the depression, this pair of Riddle Sheehan Legal Tender one pound notes were equivalent to half a week’s wages for the average worker. At a time when a third of the adult population was out of work, it's hardly surprising that nearly all of the pound notes issued at that time had to be spent on life necessities, and not set aside for a rainy day.

As a result, Riddle Sheehan Legal Tender one pound notes are exceptionally difficult to find with straight paper from end to end.

Check these particular notes yourself, and you'll see they have crisp paper and firm body, and are without a centrefold or quarter bends - that really sets them apart from 99.99% of the other examples that remain in existence.

I sincerely believe they're suitable for any fine collection of Australian pre-decimal banknotes.
