1966 $2 Note Star Note Coombs/Wilson R#81s Uncirculated

Serials: ZFG 72842*

A premium example of the first $2 star printed.

Dr Herbert Cole (Nugget) Coombs was Governor of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia between January 1st 1949 and January 13th 1960, and was then the inaugural Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia from the date of its establishment on January 14th 1960 until July 22nd 1968.

Sir Roland Wilson was Secretary to the Treasury from April 1st 1951 until October 27th 1966.

$2 notes with this signature combination were issued over a shorter period than that - between February 14th 1966 and November 1967.

The mintage of the regular $2 notes with these two signatures was 192,096,000, whereas the mintage of the Coombs Wilson $2 star replacement note is 718,299.

The ratio of star notes to regular notes for the  Coombs Wilson $2 was 267 to 1. This makes the R#81s the most readily-available $2 star available to collectors.

The paper of this particular note has a lot of sheen right across both sides, confirming it remains in original condition. The intaglio ink is raised also, which really is outstanding for a note of this age.

A great note to put away for the future.
