AUSTRALIA 1977 PROOF SET
Silver Jubilee of the Coronation of Elizabeth II commemorative
Australia has been producing proof year sets ever since decimal currency was introduced in 1966.
Coin collecting was in a boom period from the mid 1970's, proof sets were particularly popular.
Proof coins are the same as those we see in our change, but are struck with specially prepared machinery on specially prepared blanks - the designs always stand out magnificently.
The 1977 proof set is not the rarest one in the entire series, but it is just as important as any other for a complete set.
It includes Australia's second ever commemorative decimal coin - the 50¢ piece that marks the 25th Anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II.
The British (Australian?) Royal Family was widely held in high esteem back in the 1970's, so commemorative products such as this proof set were in huge demand.
The coins in this set are in perfect condition, as is the packaging.
It comes with the original protective foam outers and certificate.
