Description:

AUSTRALIA 1989 MINT SET Australian native fauna

Hugely popular overseas, includes a couple of coins never issued for circulation!

With their designs featuring Australia's unique native animals, Australia's coins have always been hugely popular right around the world. The 1989 mint set capitalized on this popularity, its cardboard sleeves were designed along an outback theme, and include a lot of information about the native animals featured on the coins included. This set was heavily marketed overseas, meaning they are a little more difficult toget than the mintage might indicate.

The mint sets between 1985 and 1996 are an interesting series - many of them include coins that weren't ever issued for circulation! You'll never find a $1, 50¢ or 20¢ piece dated 1989 in your change, because they were only ever put out in the mint sets. This means the mint sets will be much tougher to get in years to come - a lot of them will be broken by collectors just wanting the coins inside them!
