1992 1984 and 1985 kangaroos, 1986 Year of Peace; 1988 Bicentennial and 1992 Barcelona

An incredible set of commemorative dollar coins - each a restrike!

For some reason, the marketing staff at the Royal Australian Mint thought it was an excellent idea to re-strike a few of the coins that were popular with collectors, and so the "Australian One Dollar Five Coin Set" was born.

Just 16,7023 such sets were released, putting them up there with the scarcest of all of the $1 coin products ever released.

1986 marked the International Year of Peace, the Australian Government chose to mark the occasion in one way by releasing our very first commemorative dollar coin.

Australian memorabilia was in a boom period right throughout the Bicentennial year, coins were particularly popular as they were officially produced by the Australian government and were affordable.

Trouble is, since these coins are now nearly 20 years old, they're never seen in circulation, let alone in "mint" condition.

The 1988 $1 commemorative coin features a kangaroo depicted in Aboriginal dot-painting style.

The Barcelona One Dollar UNC is one of the rarest and most keenly sought decimal coins of the past 20 years - this version has an incredibly low mintage of just 13,996 coins.

Other one dollar commemorative coins issued in recent times have low mintages when you consider them by mint, but one fact remains - the One Dollar Barcelona UNC has the lowest total mintage of any circulation-strike decimal coin.
