A whacking great load of Aussie one and two cent coins.
Decimal copper coins haven't been put into circulation since the early 1990's, so the only ones left now for collectors to go through are those that turn up from deceased estates and from when folks move house.
We buy all manner of coins from the general public via our office in Fremantle, and these coins come in different lots ranging from just a few coins to many, many kilograms at a time.
Although there are obviously some that are more interesting and worth more than their face value, we only find them economical to sell in 2.5kg lots.
Interest in these coins spiked a few months back when a video showing how someone had used a range of coins to tile an interior floor, we've also seen bulk coins like this used to make a mosaic for tables and benches.
We've only been through them to the extent that we've removed all of the foreign coins (ie NZ and Fijian), as well as any of the coins that were really crappy (ie with verdigris on them or those that were otherwise damaged.)
Each lot contains 2.5 kilos of mixed 1¢ and 2¢ coins - although we try to make sure each lot we sell is reasonably evenly divided between each denomination, please be advised that the composition of each lot depends completely on what we buy in.
If you'd like to buy just 1¢ coins or 2¢ coins, we'll do our best to supply you, however will need to charge a slightly higher rate to reflect the time required to sort them out.
One kilogram of mixed coins contains $3.87 worth of face value, so if you work on a 50% / 50% split, this 2.5kg bag should contain approximately 323 1¢ coins and approximately 161 2¢ coins.
If you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to use the chat tool to get in touch - if we're online we'll be pleased to get things clear for you on the spot.
