This set honours Australia's most desirable 20th century coins.
The Royal Mint first released a Masterpieces in Silver set in 1988 to mark Australia's Bicentennial year, each of the new commemorative coins issued that year were produced in proof silver.
The Masterpieces in Silver series became so popular it is still issued today, largely due to the unique beauty and appeal of the coins when struck in silver.
The 1999 Masterpieces in Silver set included six pure silver coins, each coin featuring the reverse of one of the rarest and most desirable Australian coins of the 20th century.
For those that collect pre-decimal coins, there's a great deal of background information on the coins to be found on the certificate and brochure in the lid of the presentation case - this information hasn't been published anywhere else and makes fascinating reading.
How else will many of us ever get to own a proof 1930 penny?
Or a 1920 Sydney sovereign?
Check out how much silver is trading for at the moment, then check what individual crown-sized proof coins from around the world sell for, you can see why the price of this set appeals to many collectors.
The coins, case, outer shipper, and certificate are all included and remain in excellent condition.
