This is one of several coins commemorating 150 years of the Sydney Mint.
This coin is the third in a trio honouring Australia's first gold coins, and honours the 150th Anniversary of the historically significant Sydney Mint building, opened as the first overseas branch of the Royal Mint on 14th May, 1855.
The Sydney Mint building is regarded as one of the oldest, classically detailed historic buildings in Australia, and is quite aptly depicted in pure gold in the middle of the reverse.
The first two coins in this series (Adelaide Pound and 1853 Pattern) were extremely popular, this one sure followed their success.
