Australia 2017 6-Coin Uncirculated Mint Year Set
Effigy of an Era: Ian Rank-Broadley Portrait
The first Australian mint coin set to celebrate the heads side of our circulating coins.
Australia has been producing mint year sets ever since decimal currency was introduced way back in 1966. mint coins are the same as those we see in our change, but are carefully selected for quality.
Several important milestones in the history of Australia's decimal currency coins were commemorated across 2015 and 2016, so the RAM returned to a traditional theme for the 2017 6-Coin mint Year Set.
Each of the coins in the 2017 6-Coin mint Year Set features the standard reverse design seen in circulation and instead celebrates the obverse (heads side) design used this year - the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
Effigy of an Era: The Ian Rank-Broadley Portrait
The design of the certificate and presentation case sleeve of the 2017 6-Coin Mint Year Set shows each of the four different effigies (carved portraits) of the Queen that have been used on Australian decimal coins since 1966.
In addition to his work on the coins of the British Commonwealth, Ian Rank-Broadley has more recently finished one of the most important war memorials built in Britain since WWII - a large sculpture at the Armed Forces Memorial.
Feels and Looks Like It Will Stand the Test of Time
The first thing you appreciate when you pick up the 2017 Uncirculated 6-Coin Year Set is the superb quality of the album card and sleeve - it definitely feels like it will last a long time.
Even to the untrained eye, the graphic design is elegant and restrained - the album card and sleeve has a timeless look to it, and is sure to look just as good in 5, 10 or 20 years time as it does today.
Most importantly, the coins themselves have an obvious, high quality finish - they are easily far better quality than the coins we see struck for circulation, and exhibit a vivid cartwheeling lustre.
Australia's 6-coin mint year set for 2017 is unique as the first set to celebrate an obverse design, and is sure to stand the test of time.

I've taken my coins to Andrew a few times. Him and his staff are very nice people. Andrew is honest and down to earth. 👍
I have purchased several bulk lots of world coins from Sterling & Currency over the last few years. Not only are the selections I receive great (some duplication is par for the course), but the postage is truly cheap as chips. And I hope to be a customer for many more years. I've certainly never experienced any of the rudeness that other reviewers have mentioned. Read more...
I live on East Coast but prefer dealing with Andrew on the West due to his integrity, knowledge and prices, either buying or selling over many years. You will always do better buying from Andrew if your after quality and "real" coins.... If you take a coin to value and its a fake, he will tell you. If its valuable or mid range, he will be as honest with that valuation. After decades dealing with Andrew (and many other dealers as I have been collecting for well over 40 years), I am of the opinion that Stirling and Currency and particularly Andrew are the best numismatic dealers in Australia . Just purchased a 1966 blue case decimal mint set. Andrew gave me a ring to ensure it had arrived and provided some very interesting and probably unknown information concerning these blue cases imported from South Africa during the apartheid era. Great service and a compendium of knowledge. Thanks! Read more...
