A priceless reproduction of Australia's rarest and most keenly sought numismatic rarities.
In 2005, the Perth Mint released an incredible series of 12 coins and replicas honouring Australia's rarest and most keenly sought numismatic rarities. The coins were sold by subscription - you got the background booklet with the first coin in the series, the (rather impressive, if somewhat cheesy!) case with the 5th coin, and the replica collection with the last coin in the series.
The list of 12 coins included in this set is as follows:
Gilt Dragon Spanish American 8 Reales
Proclamation - Spanish American Pillar Dollar
Proclamation - British 1797 Cartwheel Penny
1813 New South Wales Holey Dollar & Dump
1852 Adelaide Assay Office Gold Ingot
1852 Adelaide Assay Office Five Pound Coin
1853 Port Phillip 1oz Pattern
1855 Sydney Mint Sovereign
Advance Australia Penny
1860 Hogarth, Erichsen & Co 'Aboriginal Threepence'
1909 Australian Pattern Florin
1919-21 Australian Square Penny Pattern
Each coin is released as legal tender of the Cook Islands, has the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse and is dated either 2005 or 2006 (depending on when they were released to subscribers).
When complete, this impressive collection includes a booklet covering the historical background to each item in the set (worth the price of admission alone), the presentation case (chest?) and the set of replicas.
No more than 1,500 collections were produced.
Each collection is accompanied by a Certificate of Ownership and 12 individual Certificates of Authenticity featuring matching numbers.
