Struck by WJ Taylor using the press that was sent out to Australia for the Kangaroo Office.
In a letter to Mr Alfred Chitty and published in the Antiquarian Gazette on August 26th 1906, Mr Thomas Stokes stated that he saw the coining press used at the Kangaroo Office “at work at the Crystal Palace Exhibition in 1851, striking commemorative medals under the direction of WJ Taylor.”
This commemorative medallion is one of those struck by Taylor at the Crystal Palace Exhibition.
It has been well struck, retains good metal quality and is devoid of wear or damage.
Worthy of inclusion in any collection related to the Australian Kangaroo Office.
