Mintage: 62,500 | Average: One star note for every 1,053 ordinary issue
This is a truly affordable example of our rarest paper decimal star note.
On page 296 of his book on Australian paper decimal notes, Mick Vort Ronald explains why the Phillips Randall is so tough to come by: "Star replacement notes in the $20 denomination were restricted to Phillips Randall issues because this denomination did not commence to use stars until late in 1970, and star notes were discontinued in the following year."
Just 62,500 $ 20-star notes were printed, which is hands down the lowest mintage figure for any of the paper decimal star notes.
This particular note has circulated to a reasonable degree but remains in presentable condition.
It has several nicks evident in the top and bottom margins, no pinholes or internal tears are evident. The paper quality and colours are solid for a note in this grade.
It is an affordable and presentable example of Australia's rarest paper decimal star note.
