1993 $10 Note Fraser/Evans KE93 Last Prefix R316aL Uncirculated
Front: Mary Gilmour at right
Back: Banjo Paterson at centre
Period on Issue: 1993 - 1994
This prefix emerged as a real rarity well before the market got onto them.
The introduction of polymer technology to Australia’s circulating banknotes did a great deal to stimulate collecting at that time - collectors and the general public were so keen to “set a few aside for the kids” that all of the old paper and the new polymer notes were selling well.
It didn’t take collectors long to realise that the very first of each of the new polymer notes was more interesting than those that were printed after, so First Prefixes began to emerge as a distinct collecting field.
It wasn’t until a few years had passed that a market began to develop for the last prefixes of the polymer notes - the last notes printed in each year or signature combination.
Most collectors would have passed the KE 93 $10 by without much thought at all, however the value it has today shows just how hard it is to come by in premium quality.
