The first set of carded $1 commemorative coins.
The mintmark one dollar series is hugely popular right around the country - these coins are affordable, scarce and really well presented, which is why they're put away by parents, grandparents and keen collectors as soon as they're released.
There are always new collectors coming into the market each year, when many of them decide to get the back issues, it means there's plenty of healthy competition for the few that come onto the market.
Not only do most collectors want one of each design, they want one of each mintmark that was used.
The Waltzing Matilda commemorative dollar coin struck a nostalgic chord as soon as it was released.
The UNC version was the first to be released in the now popular coloured cardboard sleeve, this packaging (together with the extra information on the background to the coin being issued) definitely had a positive impact on sales.
Each $1 mintmark coin bears the same design, except for a letter identifying the city for which it was struck:
B (Brisbane), M (Melbourne), S (Sydney) and C (Canberra).
These coins remains in as-issued condition, and come with the original wallets they were issued in by the RAM.
