A hugely popular commemorative coin with an innovative reverse design.
Ever since it was founded, the the WA Goldfields was short of water - a resource vital to everyday life and also to the gold mining industry.
The cost of water was reduced by 90% once the Goldfields Water Supply Scheme was opened by the Governor of WA, Sir John Forrest, on 24th January, 1903.
The 560 kilometre pipeline between Perth and Kalgoorlie was widely regarded as an engineering marvel, many critics could not conceive that that it would be anything other than a complete and utter disaster.
Nicknamed "The Golden Pipeline", the Goldfields Water Supply Scheme enabled the full benefits of the discovery of gold in WA to be realized, and brought immense wealth into the previously struggling WA economy.
The reverse design of the coin features a coloured image of O'Connor and the inscription GOLDEN PIPELINE 100th ANNIVERSARY. Both appear within the shape of the famous 'locking bar', revolutionary Australian technology used to seal the pipeline's seams without rivets.
This element of the design is set against a background of signatures of those who attended the 1903 inauguration ceremony, and the inscription 1903 - 2003.
The coin, case, outer shipper, and certificate are all included and remain in excellent condition.

I've taken my coins to Andrew a few times. Him and his staff are very nice people. Andrew is honest and down to earth. 👍
I have purchased several bulk lots of world coins from Sterling & Currency over the last few years. Not only are the selections I receive great (some duplication is par for the course), but the postage is truly cheap as chips. And I hope to be a customer for many more years. I've certainly never experienced any of the rudeness that other reviewers have mentioned. Read more...
I live on East Coast but prefer dealing with Andrew on the West due to his integrity, knowledge and prices, either buying or selling over many years. You will always do better buying from Andrew if your after quality and "real" coins.... If you take a coin to value and its a fake, he will tell you. If its valuable or mid range, he will be as honest with that valuation. After decades dealing with Andrew (and many other dealers as I have been collecting for well over 40 years), I am of the opinion that Stirling and Currency and particularly Andrew are the best numismatic dealers in Australia . Just purchased a 1966 blue case decimal mint set. Andrew gave me a ring to ensure it had arrived and provided some very interesting and probably unknown information concerning these blue cases imported from South Africa during the apartheid era. Great service and a compendium of knowledge. Thanks! Read more...
