2006 Silver One Ounce 5 Coin Proof Set Figures Of Note in Presentation Case With Original Notes
Contains 5 * Proof 1oz Silver coins and 5 original paper decimal banknotes
Just 150 of these coin and note sets were released.
The Perth Mint released this impressive set of five pure silver 1oz coins in 2006 to mark the 40th anniversary of the introduction of decimal currency to Australia in 1966. The five Figures of Note coins depict historic figures as they were originally represented on Australia's first decimal currency notes issued between 1966 and 1974. The portraits are:
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Australia's Sovereign, who acceded to the throne 54 years ago in 1952 and has visited Australia on 14 occasions, as she appeared on the front of Australia's first $1 note.
John Macarthur (1767–1834), who contributed to the development of the Australian wool industry, especially through the use of high-quality Spanish sheep to breed the Australian merino, as he appeared on the front of Australia's first $2 note; and William James Farrer (1845–1906), who played a major role in developing disease resistant wheat including 'Federation', which allowed wheat farming to advance into drier areas, as he appeared on the back of Australia's first $2 note.
Sir Joseph Banks (1743–1820), the English botanist who made the first major collection of Australian flora during James Cook's voyage of discovery between 1768 and 1771, as he appeared on the front of Australia's first $5 note; and Caroline Chisholm (1808–1877), who worked to establish better conditions including suitable employment and accommodation, for young migrant women in New South Wales, as she appeared on the back of Australia's first $5 note.
Francis Greenway (1777–1837), the convict architect employed by Governor Macquarie whose work included Hyde Park Barracks, Macquarie Lighthouse at South Head and St Matthews Church, Windsor, as he appeared on the front of Australia's first $10 note; and Henry Lawson (1867–1922), one of Australia's best known writers, who is often heralded as the first to capture the Australian way of life on the gold fields and outback sheep country, as he appeared on the back of Australia's first $10 note.
Sir Charles Kingsford Smith (1897–1935), Australia's famous aviator, whose record achievements included the first successful flight across the Pacific and the fastest flight from Sydney to London, as he appeared on the front of Australia's first $20 note; and Lawrence Hargrave (1850–1915), the astronomer and aeronautical pioneer who worked on curved aerofoils, the box kite and the rotary engine as a means of powered flight, as he appeared on the back of Australia's first $20 note.
All coins and the presentation box are in mint condition, the Certificate of Authenticity is included.
Also included in the set are 5 orignal Australian paper decimal banknotes - the $1; $2; $5; $10 and $20. These notes grade between Fine and Very Fine condition.
