Struck by an infamous Mint to commemorate an important event in Irish history.
This gold ingot / medallion was struck on behalf of a rather notorious "Mint" in the Republic of Ireland named "The Dublin Mint". It was the key item in a series struck to commemorate 100 years since the Easter Uprising and eventual push for independence by the Irish people.
The Google reviews for the Dublin Mint make for eyebrow raising reading, they've received a lot of negative feedback about the massive markups they place on their silver-plated base metal medallions.
We've tested this medal both for purity and weight, and can confirm that it is made from 7.78 grams of pure gold.
So although the original owner apparently paid 1,000 Euro (around A$16,50) for a series of worthless base metal medallions plus this gold piece, it's now priced appropriately.
It remains in the original presentation case it was issued in.
