This joint issue of 4 hugely popular coins is in special packaging.
The first remarkable silver commemorative coin in this set was issued by the Perth Mint to mark the end of the 20th century, and is one of the first Australian coins to feature a pad-printed colour reverse. It was hugely popular between 1999 and 2001, this popularity has remained strong ever since.
The second silver coin in this set is a specimen 1oz Kookaburra - the silver Kookaburra series of coins is hugely popular around the world for a number of reasons - high quality metal struck to exacting standards, beautiful presentation and tiny mintage figures to boot!
The reverse of the 2000 silver Kookaburra features a single Kookaburra sitting on a branch.
The third coin in this set is a silver 1oz specimen kangaroo coin dated 2000. The Royal Australian Mint began striking silver one ounce coins with a kangaroo reverse in 1993, and this series is now hugely popular with collectors right around the world.
The fourth and final silver proof coin in this set is a 2000-dated 1oz dragon. The Perth Mint Australian Lunar Series gold and silver coins commemorate the Chinese Lunar calendar: gold coins were first struck in 1996, silver coins began in 1999. It is now one of the most keenly collected lunar coin series in the entire world. The Perth Mint's bullion coins are exceptional quality, and their proof coins are even better.
The dragon, the only mythical animal in the lunar series, is revered by the Chinese. To them, the dragon is the ultimate symbol of wisdom and represents the spirit for advancement. The dragon also is viewed as the incarnation of power and authority. In Chinese communities, dragon years are marked by celebrations, festivals, and rising birth rates as parents attempt to confer their offspring with the dragon's characteristics of success, happiness, and prosperity.
People born in the Year of the Dragon are (apparently!) healthy, energetic, excitable, short-tempered, and stubborn. Dragons are also honest, sensitive, brave, and they inspire confidence and trust.
In addition to the year 2000, other Dragon years are 1988, 1976, 1964, 1952, 1940, 1928, 1916, and 1904.
This set of four coins remains housed in the unique presentation case, and is accompanied by a serial-numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
